THE SIMILARITIES AND DIFFERENCES OF ASKING FOR AND GIVING PERMISSION IN ENGLISH AND VIETNAMESE

The act of asking for and giving permission is a widespread pair of speech act in Viet Nam as well as all over the world. The aim of the study is to find out some  similarities and differences between the act of asking for and giving permission in English and Vietnamese in syntactic, semantic and pragmatic aspects. The research methods used are linguistic statistics, analytical method, comparative method. Besides, the paper focuses on exploring the relationship between politeness, culture with the act of asking for and giving permission in English and Vietnamese.
