This paper aims at analyzing, comparing and contrasting Vocative expressions denoting Interpersonal meaning in the Diary of Dang Thuy Tram and its English version ‘Last Night, I Dreamed of Peace’. The model adopted for this paper is Systematic Functional Grammar as presented in Halliday [12]. Vocative expressions in the Diary of Dang Thuy Tram and their translational equivalents in Last night, I Dreamed of Peace are collected, classified, compared and contrasted in order to find out the similarities and differences between English and Vietnamese vocative expressions. The findings indicate that Vietnamese has more variety of expressions for addressing compared with English, which show different linguistic features between English and Vietnamese. On the basic of the findings, some implications are put forward for teaching and learning English for Vietnamese learners.
